North Pole Fire and Rescue serves the Lyons community. What started as an effort to help one family after a house fire close to Christmas several years ago, has turned into a community outreach project close to our hearts. In 2012, a family with two young children lost their house to a fire on one of the coldest nights of the year. The family had a daughter with medical needs that required numerous pieces of equipment and medicines that were lost in the fire. Our group rallied together and came up with enough money to help the family which included money for the medical equipment and medicine, but also a meal and gifts for the kids and gift cards to help with expenses. 

Since then North Pole Fire and Rescue has reached out to at least 7 families each year at Christmas to offer grocery cards, meals and gifts for the children. We also have delivered personalized blankets to the Lyons Hospital swing bed patients and Country Living Estates residents as well as those at the Good Samaritan home prior to its closure. We include a meal for the patients and residents upon delivery as well. 

Our service is most obvious at Christmas, but it is continuous throughout the year. We have helped families who have been affected by fires and accidents, offering financial support in a time of crisis. We have helped senior citizens in our community with their energy and City bills, glasses, medicines and other necessary equipment for a good quality of life. It is not unusual for us to hear of a need in the community and rising to the challenge to meet that need. We are grateful to our members and those that donate to help our cause.
